At the forefront of its youth development program is the Magsaysay Institute of
Shipping (MIS), a three-hectare facility in Dasmariñas, Cavite that provides in-house
training programs to MOL cadet scholars. The Institute offers facilities for engine
officers and crew, as well as facilities for galley, restaurant and accommodations
personnel, thus ensuring a comprehensive training and learning environment.
The centerpiece program of MIS is the three-month Officers Candidate Course (OCC),
a foundation course aimed to develop a new breed of maritime leaders that possess
exceptional technical knowledge and outstanding leadership skills designed to shape
cadet scholars into future captains and chief engineers. Over 2, 400 cadets graduated
from the course since it began in 1993.
